Coming up we have...
Language Arts - This week, we will be reading a variety of mentor texts and focusing on several skills including:
- 3.RL.1 Key Ideas and Details
Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers.
- 3.RL.3 Key Ideas and Details
Describe characters in a story and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events.
We will also be working on visualizing.

Nouns will continue through part of October.
Chapter 1Math - Chapter 1
We begin by taking a journey though addition and subtraction within 1,000. It is expected that students be able to recall what was taught to them last year, as basic addition and subtraction facts was the focus of 2nd grade. Students will be keeping an interactive math journal this year and are more than welcome to bring it back and forth from school to home as long as it comes back to school the next day (we will be using it in class almost every day). Students do need to know, and understand, the different properties presented in Chapter 1. Math Vocabulary for Chapter 1 * Associative Property of Addition (4 + 5) + 9 = 4 + (5 + 9) * Commutative Property of Addition 7 + 8 = 8 + 7 * Identity Property of Addition 7 + 0 = 7 * Expanded Form (Break Apart Strategy) 358 = 300 + 50 + 8 * addition * addend * compatible numbers * difference * digit * equation (aka number sentence) * estimate * even. * hundreds. * label * odd. * ones. * regroup. * round * subtraction. * sum. * tens. * value * variable |
